Metaverse and Its Possibilites: Scholarly Evaluation Using Data Analytics

Abstract:

A metaverse is a series of virtual spaces and second lives in which a person can create and surf with other Internet users who are not in the same physical spaces. The virtual world concept allows any user to connect, communicate, work, play and conduct various transactions just like in the real world. The Metaverse concept combines several technological innovations, e.g., virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). This article provides a bibliometric analysis of Metaverse from 1995 to 2022 to examine trends and current issues. Metaverse will undoubtedly bring a second life to humanity. So, the security anticipation needs to be discussed again. Of course, this digital development can have a negative impact if it is not given a good understanding to its users. More concerning is that metaverse technology will further erode privacy, which can cause privacy data to be easily known. Further research is highly recommended to discuss the impact on psychology and mental health involving the emergence of addiction and triggering depression. The effects caused by the Metaverse may be more severe than playing video games, considering that the Metaverse is a second life that has the potential to change many things, especially the personal lives of its users.

REZZY EKO CARAKA, Ph.D. His research interests include, but are not limited to, data science, statistics, Large-Scale Optimization, Fast Computing, Disaster Risk, and machine learning in theory, practice, and application to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He received numerous awards, including the best paper conference and an excellent research award on a national and international scale. He also serves on the Editorial Board of many reputable and impactful journals. At the same, He acts as a Faculty member, Researcher, and Senior Research Fellow in different institutions.
